Biography
Isaac Newton united the heavens and the Earth under a single law. His Principia (1687) showed that the same gravity that pulls an apple to the ground holds the Moon in its orbit and shapes the paths of the planets, explaining Kepler's laws from first principles. He also invented the reflecting telescope and laid the foundations of modern physics.
