Scientific overview

HR 4153 is a main-sequence star in the constellation Antlia (Antliae), lying about 874.4 light-years from Earth.

Class C (carbon star). Cool carbon stars — evolved red giants whose atmospheres hold more carbon than oxygen, giving them a striking deep-red, ruby colour. Such stars have surface temperatures around ≤ 3,200 K and appear deep red to the eye.

Evolution

A main-sequence star fuses hydrogen into helium in its core. It will remain on the main sequence for most of its life before evolving into a giant.
